Upcycled Painted Toolbox

Hi everyone! I hope you all are having a great weekend! I picked up an awesome antique desk (via craigslist) to work on.  It will be a new piece for our living room mini update and I'm kind of thinking about going bold. I also sold another piece of furniture that I painted. Yeah! I'll share more tomorrow about that.

Anyway, one thing that I really love to refinish are old wooden boxes and containers. It's amazing how a little paint can totally change the look.

I found this toolbox for sale last summer for just $5 and its been sitting in my basement waiting for a makeover since.  I really disliked the stencil...

...and these unevenly cut, weird cardboard floral cutouts that were glued to the sides. And when I say glued I mean with some sort of industrial adhesive. They were a nightmare to remove (or at least that's what my husband told me since he was kind enough to do take on that miserable task). Although, he removed them before I took my before shots, which caused me to have a mini meltdown, so I ended up having to prop them back up with a bit of tape for this photo.  Yup. That's right. I had a mini melt down over that.

I love the after.  I used a base coat of Behr's Classic Silver and then a top coat of  Behr's Dragonfly.  It's a really pretty and beachy blue with a hint of aqua.

I really did like the idea of doing some sort of special detail on the ends of the  tool box, so I decided to stencil this little flower using a deep gray craft paint.

Lastly, I sanded the entire piece to give it some age and character.  I really think it would be perfect for the aqua accents I'm adding to our living room for the spring.  However, I did list it on craigslist, so we'll see.  I find my furniture sells super fast, but small items, like this don't at all.  Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I'm sure you've all heard about the big deal with Google Friends Connect being removed soon, right?  For ages I've had bloglovin' on my side bar as an option to follow me and decided to check it out for myself last week. And, I have to say, that it was super easy to sign up and with just one click the blogs that I follow were uploaded to their site. It all seems pretty concise and easy to read.  To set up your own account and to continue to follow me just click on the button on my side bar.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  10. The floral panels on the before shot were too funny! Just think, it was somebody's "after" at one time. Great color choice on the redo. (And I'm loving that owl lamp.)
