A Trio of Chairs

I recently found three chairs all on the same day.

A barrel shaped chair, which was from the Goodwill and two others that I found at some bizarre, we'll say store, although it seemed like a front for something that I'm not sure what, but I was lured in by vintage furniture displayed out front only to walk into the weirdest place that had nothing really, but two guys and a puppy hanging out. Seriously, I have no clue what was going on there, but I ended up with two chairs and yet another story to tell.

This was one of the chairs that I found:

I love the shape of the chair and the carved flower detail.  All it needed was a coat of black paint, some distressing and reupholstering.  I used a drop cloth remnant for the seat since I wanted something very neutral and without any pattern to potentially compete with the flower.

I found the barrel chair at the Goodwill, and while it was a bit wobbly, all it really needed was a little bit of wood glue.

I also painted it black, lightly distressed it and waxed it.

(Here are the befores by the way; a sea of yucky, old brown chairs.)

Lastly, was this antique wood chair, also found at the bizarre store.  I simply re-glued it and gave it a good cleaning.

Look at the detail and wood grain!  And let me tell you all something wicked ridiculous.  I had glued all the pieces that needed reinforcement except for the legs. I was so upset because the chair was seriously wobbly and I was totally convinced that one leg had been cut short. That was until Martino walked in the room, took one look at the chair and commented how one leg was popped out too far and needed to be glued. I never cease to amaze myself...

Have a great day!

  3. Love those chairs! Ok, so I need to know about re-glueing. I have two bar stools that are totally wobbly. All the googling I've done seems to say that I need to take everything completely apart. Is that what you do? Thanks for any help you can give!

    1. Hi Katie,

I don't take the entire chair apart. If the chair is really wobbly I have been able to just pull it apart at the joint, add in some Gorilla wood glue and clamp until dry. It's worked great for me so far.
