Lamp Black and Brick Red Dresser

*I was compensated for this post with supplies, however all content, thoughts and opinions are my own.

Hey friends! I took advantage of being stuck at home while our bathroom renovation continues to work on this gorgeous custom order dresser.

My customer requested black with red coming through and I think I achieved a great balance with the two colors.

Since this dresser was not previously painted I thought it would be a breeze to prep. Yeah. Totally wrong on that one. I haven't a clue what was use as a poly previously, but it was drippy, cloudy and came off in flakes. What I thought would be a light roughing up of the wood turned into a complete sanding. Luckily, that was the hardest part of this makeover.

After I got the prep out of the way I painted one coat of General Finishes Brick Red, followed by two coats of Lamp Black. This brand of paint is the perfect consistency and goes on so smoothly.

When the paint was dry I sanded the entire pieces, focusing on certain areas to bring out the red. I finished with a coat of clear wax.

I knew that my customer had planned on getting new hardware for the dresser since she wasn't a fan of the original and one was missing. For photo purposes I thought I would try these bold, brass pull from D. Lawless Hardware. I think they really finish off the dresser beautifully.  And my customer ended up loving them, too.

I love the intricate detail!

I'm betting the guy working on our bathroom had a good chuckle when he came out to the driveway to cut tile and I had this cute little vignette set up. Luckily, he knows I'm a blogger. ;)

  10. Angela,
Recently, I did a make~over of the same hues but in reverse order.
The lamp black was the underlying base and the brick red was the top coat.
I added Iron Star drawer pulls!
