Versatile Country Desk

*I was compensated for this post with supplies, however all content, thoughts and opinions are my own.

Hey friends!

It's Monday again and we had a hard working (but fun) weekend. The remaining paneling is out of the study and my boys are working on removing the layers of wallpaper. I worked on some custom orders and a couple others that I plan to sell. And best of all we saw our city's fireworks. We watched them right from our backyard as they are set off just a block or so away.

Also, I had a customer pick up this gorgeous country desk I had just finished. When I initially found it I thought it was such a great and versatile piece. I picture it being used as a desk, entry console, dining room buffet or sofa table.

When I brought it home it was, structurally, in great condition (which is always a bonus)!

The finish had seen better days and the current stain had been worn off in many spots.  Since I adore two toned furniture, I decided to restain the top portion of the desk using General Finishes Antique Walnut stain.

The base of the desk got a couple of coats of my old standby favorite, General Finishes Antique White and the drawer was further accented using GF's Persian Blue. I think the combination of these three colors create a beautiful modern country feel.

I distressed the base and drawer and sealed with poly.

The original hardware was small and didn't make enough of a statement so I replaced it with these intricate glass pumpkin knobs from D. Lawless Hardware. I think they add a touch of sparkle and formality to the piece.

I hope you all have a wonderful day. I have to tell you all that I am feeling stressed over the bathroom reno. We are on week three. It just seems never ending. I have hope it will be finished this week. Seriously, I really am hoping!

  7. You are so right about what it could be used for, that kind of piece is invaluable. And the way you redid her, she has a wonderful new gorgeous life ahead of her. Love that stain on top. I would love to have that piece. You are very good at what you do. Where do you find your pieces? You must have a great eye for good ones. Happy 4th.
