French Inspired Vintage End Table

Morning everyone!

 

A couple of weekends ago I painted this gorgeous French inspired end table.

 

I'm a huge fan of two toned pieces and was thrilled by how this one turned out!



When I found this table is was structurally in great condition and just needed a little makeover...

 

 

 

I started by sanding and staining the top of the table in Antique Walnut by General Finishes.

 

 

 

I'm pretty sure GF's Java Gel Stain is their most popular, but this shade is my favorite, by far. I'm so glad I took the time to stain the top, because the wood grain was beautiful!

 

 

 

The base and drawer were painted with GF's Antique White (and yes, I use that color every single chance I get.) Earlier this week I posted my coffee table painted in this same color (you can see it here). However, on this end table I went one step further. After painting and distressing I wiped the painted portions down with GF's Glaze Effects in Burnt Umber. It adds to the wonderful aged, French feel.

 

 

 

I'm not at all someone who tends to paint hardware, but I made an exception in this case. The shape and heft of these pulls were perfect, but the finish (you know that super, super shiny brass) was extremely dated.  I ended up giving them a couple of coats of blue chalk paint that I had on hand and was really happy with the result. I think I see more painted hardware on the horizon for me!

 



 

 

I finished the table up with a couple of coats of poly and it sold immediately to one of my customers.
