Vintage Sideboard & Milk Paint Review

Hi all.

This weekend I fell in love. In love with a piece of furniture and the paint I tested out on it.

But, first, have I mentioned that I fell into in a serious furniture buying slump this past month? Seriously. Could. Not. Find. One. Thing. Not that I don't have enough to keep me busy with custom orders and  pieces I already have stashed away, but still, I like to keep a steady stream coming in. Just when I had given up hope, I found this beauty.

As soon as I saw this sideboard I knew it had to be mine. Yes, I know...not so beautiful before, but gorgeous lines and structurally fantastic and heavy. I'm honestly still questioning how I was able to help the guy get the piece into the back of my SUV. Pure furniture excitement and adrenaline going on there!

I started by sanding and cleaning the entire piece as some of the original finish had begun to flake off and then glued back on the decorative accents. (They had come off, but luckily were stashed in one of the drawers. Score!)

Then, I began to paint. Recently, I received some General Finishes Milk Paint to try out for the first time. One word. LOVE. Seriously. The paint went on so smooth, it is not thick or gloppy and, get this...I just had to do one coat and touch ups. I barely used a 1/4 of a can of my paint on this entire sideboard. A little distressing and a couple quick coats of poly and I was done

The finish is so rich and true to its name, Dark Chocolate. Does it not totally remind you of that? Won't this piece give such a classic and cozy feel to a dining room?

I can guarantee that this paint (and all of its other luscious shades) will be put into heavy rotation around here. Now, if only General Finishes would make an aqua colored milk paint, I would officially be in heaven!
