This month I took part in The Fab Furniture Flippin’ Contest and I am so thrilled to share my project with you all! We were so lucky to have the sponsorship of the Old Fashioned Milk Paint Company. I was particularly happy with this because in all of my years of furniture painting, I never used real milk paint and I have been just itching too!
Ready to see what my finished antique dresser?
I cannot even express how much I love how this came out and the colors could not be more perfect for our antique with modern farmhouse living room.
Here is where we started with this piece. It was in pristine condition, but the finish had seen better days.
I sanded it with 80 grit sandpaper, cleaned it off and painted a coat of Old Fashioned Milk Paint in Bayberry Green. I let that dry thoroughly and did a second coat of paint, this time in Sea Green. Once that was dry, I sanded the entire piece with a very fine grit paper. I let the dresser be my guide, as the paint got quite flaky in certain spots. I finished with a generous coat of wax.
Any fear I had with using real, powered milk paint was unfounded. It was so easy to mix and I love that I was able to do so in small batches so I had no waste.
I also love the vibrancy of the colors. I have to admit, I'm a little gun shy when it comes to choosing colors for my own home, but these just spoke to me. They look so authentic to the time period of both our home and the furniture.
I wish you all could see this dresser in person. It's the perfect mix of blue and green, with little hints of the bayberry peeking through in some spots.
Have you ever seen such gorgeous hardware? I just cleaned them up and added them right back on. I'm completely in love with the mix of chippy paint and intricate pulls.
I just have a few final details and will be sharing more of our living room soon!
