The last couple of weeks have left me in a tizzy. So, the entire refurbishing of furniture thing has taken off way faster than I thought, I've let some of my blog posts and linking fall to the wayside, and my children are in a nightmarish stage. I really don't think it has much to do with their autism or ADHD or anxiety. Just typical, out of control sibling drama and bad attitudes. The combination of two boys ages 9 and 11 is just not working for me lately.
Anyhoo, I won't even tell you the ridiculous price we got these end tables for at the Goodwill. They were clearly mismarked and we snatched them up quickly. Well, that's not entirely true. Martino and I walked into the Goodwill about 5 minutes before closing, panicked because we couldn't make a decision, left without the tables, obsessed about them all night and then got to the store before they opened the next morning and bought them. Craziness.
It was Martino's idea to refinish them in a cottage style. I've been painting so much black lately that this was a refreshing change.
Here is the before shot. Clearly a bit beat up, but structurally very sound and heavy.
My helper (Antonio) gave the tables a good sanding and I painted them two coats of Picket Fence (white) by Martha Stewart. We had a couple of really nice weather days this past week so I was able to bring the tables outside to work on them (such a nice change). When the white paint was dry I rubbed on some dark walnut stain to age the finish and give it more interest. Lastly, I gave everything a light sanding.
The best part of this entire makeover is that they were sold almost immediately to a good friend of mine. We never get to see each other so I am super excited that she is the one getting these awesome tables and that we'll get some time to meet up!

I just love the shape of these tables and the storage from the large drawer.

They turned out terrific!
ReplyDeleteWe had end tables just like those in my childhood home. It would be fun to take them and redo them like yours.

I too have left Goodwill only to obsess about a treasure that I left behind! Glad those tables were still there! I have got to step up my furniture painting! The tables look beautiful! Life to the full! Melissa @ DaisyMaeBelle
ReplyDeleteOh SOOOO much better in white. Great job! Susan
ReplyDeleteNice improvement. I am a new follower. I look forward to seeing more diy projects.
ReplyDeleteGreat tables, Angela! I love the cottage look to them with the white. I have seen a couple of this style recently. It's almost like something is telling me maybe I should just buy them and paint them up for my booth. They'd be perfect actually for the size of my booth and my car {for transporting purposes}!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find! They look so much better painted! Linda
ReplyDeleteReally cute - love that shape!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing your inspiring project. I've committed myself to decorating my kids' rooms and my studio in the next few months...your photos (especially seeing the before and after) are just the inspiration I need. Beautifully done...good eye. Lynaea @ EveryDayBloom.com
