Colonial Blue Dresser

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a great long weekend.  Ours was really relaxed. We just all hung out together, I worked on a couple of projects, went to some tag sales and watched the Memorial Day parade right from my front yard!

I know I'm always sharing dressers, they are definitely my most popular request for custom work, and this was no exception.  My Mom wanted something for her den based on an antique blue box she has that is layered in deep turquoise and blues.

When I found this dresser at Savers I knew it would be perfect for the project with its clean lines and primitive shape.

I started by sanding the entire piece really well; it had been painted a color very similar to stained wood and I wanted to remove as much of it as possible.

I then painted the entire piece in Behr's Twilight Chimes and distressed it with a sanding sponge when it was dry.

Next, I dry brushed the dresser using Behr's Deep Sea Blue.  However, to mimic the inspiration piece, which was very old, I dry brushed it both horizontally and vertically, in kind of a cross pattern.  I again sanded when dry and added a protective coat of wax.

I love how vibrant the color is and how unexpected it looks on this dresser.  I'm also super excited because I will be recreating this look on another dresser this week, this time for a nautical themed nursery. Won't these colors look amazing in that type of room?

Enjoy your day!

  9. It is a lovely piece and gorgeous colours and treatments that you gave it. I have decided to paint a lighter blue armoire in our family room navy so I really appreciate you sharing the colours to check out. Thanks. The ironstone pops so nicely on it too. Those colours will indeed look great in a nursery.
