Antique Drop Leaf Table

It kind of seems like 2014 is becoming the year of the drop leaf table for me.

Weird, since I've never purchased or refurbished them before.

But, here we are, three months in and this is already the second I have painted (you can see my black vintage drop leaf here). Plus, I have another in storage waiting for a makeover. And, we purchased an antique drop leaf table a few weeks ago for our very own dining room.

I think this table is so adorable! And I especially love the long, skinny, spindly legs. The go out at a slight angle and, this is super weird, but remind me of a baby giraffe when they are first trying to walk. See. Completely told you it was weird.

Anyway, General Finishes always provides me with fantastic products. (Seriously, this is with out a doubt my absolute fave paint and believe me, I have tried a lot of different kinds.)

Here's a before of the table. Ignore the complete wonky look of the legs, I had to get hardware to fix them.

For this table I used GF's Gel Stain in Java. I honestly am such a novice when it comes to staining, but am thrilled with the results and I love how some of the age of the table still came through. When it was dry, I gave it a couple of coats of PolyAcrylic to further protect the piece.

I absolutely love two toned furniture so I opted to paint the legs and base of the table and lightly distress. I used GF's milk paint in Linen.

This little project immediately found a home...it was a gift for my Mom! (Here it is in her kitchen.)

I just love how versatile furniture like this can be. You can see how it worked both in my living room, styled more modernly, and also in my Mom's kitchen with primitive décor.

  5. Beautiful! I love the two tone look too! This table looks very similar to our old kitchen table right down to the baby giraffe angled legs! I wonder if ours was a drop leaf at some point in it's table life? Hmmm?
