Vintage Modern Painted Hutch {& AT Feature)

Hey everyone! 

I have a couple of exciting things to share. On Friday, Apartment Therapy featured one of my Painted & Stained Mid Century End Tables! Super cool to be featured there again since I am a faithful reader of AT.

Secondly, I'd like to introduce you all to my new mid century hutch. We're all pretty much in love. Like, all four of us. Kids included.

 

So, a week or so ago I promised my boys that if they had a good week I would take them out for burgers and lemonade and then we would go shopping for summer clothes and shoes.

 

Are you completely laughing at me using clothes shopping as a treat with 10 and 12 year old boys. If not, you should be. Lunch was great. Shopping backfired. They each got a new Yankees hat and that was about it. This is why I usually online shop without their opinions.

 

 

 

Anyway, we were in Connecticut, so I decided to just drive home on the back roads rather than the highway and we stopped at a tag sale at a town that borders Massachusetts. Literally, this was the only tag sale we saw because the weather was threatening rain all day. So I walk over and this hutch is covered in a tarp in case it did, in fact, start to rain. The price was RIDICULOUS and totally in a good way. The people having the tag sale offered to uncover it so I could get a good look, but I told them since it was one piece there was no way I would be able to get it home in my SUV. You guys...the offered to deliver it for FREE!

 

 

 

A complete no brainer purchase. Less than an hour later it was in my home and I was even more in love.

 

 

 

I contemplated long and hard over whether or not I should paint this. Here's a few reasons why I did. First, I wanted to replace the broken and missing  hardware and would need to patch the current holes to do so. Secondly, there are no markings on the piece, so I don't think it holds any true value. Next, it wasn't in perfect condition and had lots of chips. And, lastly, the wood tone just didn't mesh in our home and I knew I would love this painted an antique white.

 

 

 

And speaking of hardware, since this was such a special piece of furniture that would be making a huge statement as soon as you entered out home I wanted some pretty spectacular knobs. I ended up picking these Agate Knobs from West Elm.

They are so amazing! My oldest is really into rocks and gems so he is particularly enamored.




I'm sure the styling with be tweaked, adjusted and maybe even totally changed at some point, but for now, I am in love with the mass of white pottery and ironstone.

See that pitcher with the gold trim? My Mom made that in ceramics in the 1970s!

 

 

 I love the impact of a huge collection all placed together.

 

 

One final after shot...(And you may notice from the before pic that I removed the grid from the door. It had a very dated look that just didn't mesh with the piece.)
