Updated Vintage Radio Cabinet

Hey there friends. I hope you all had a great weekend! Saturday we stayed home and worked on projects (I'll have a great MCM dresser to share with you at some point soon.) (I'll also share with you why I ended up having to scrape decades old wallpaper off our office walls, really soon too.) On Father's Day we decided to go for a hike, which was a fantastic time and much needed because, I'm going to be honest with you all, the bathroom reno is not going well and were starting to stress about it. (I'm hoping to write a post about it in more detail on Wednesday.)

Anyway, I thought I would share a recent addition to our entry with you all today.  So, a while back, I found this radio cabinet in the basement at an estate sale and the hardware and legs immediately caught my attention. The guy holding the sale offered me a great deal and I knew it would provide excellent storage. (Note that the radio components had already been removed when I bought it).

After a serious cleaning, I painted the entire piece with black chalk paint.

When the black was dry I used a small artist brush to highlight the details of the piece with gold craft paint.

When the gold had dried, I lightly distressed the entire piece, with extra focus on the gold.

It's been fantastic for shoe storage as it sits just inside our front door...

You know what? This cabinet was so super close to being sold to a customer. In fact, I had brought it in the house (the weather was crummy) to finish up some last minute details when my husband saw it in our entry and fell in love with it. He honestly never wants to keep a piece of furniture, so when he asked to keep this one, I totally had to go with it. How involved are your husbands in your home décor?

  1. Love this cabinet! It would look really cute in a tiny powder room with a tiny sink on it too.
