[Project Notebook] Master Bedrooms

Hey everyone! Can you tell I'm obsessing about some updates in our master bedroom?  Last week I talked about changes I wanted to make to my husband's furniture (you can read about it here) and today I'm sharing inspiration for the overall feel of the room.

I want the space to be calm, open, airy and relaxing. I'm thinking lots of whites and minimal accessories (with maybe one little punch of color, because I can't really live without a little bit of color!).

[Project Notebook] Painted Armoire

So, you know that I am always thinking about what I can change around and update in our home.

One room that I have been gradually tweaking is our master bedroom. I love the armoire that my husband has in lieu of a dresser, but years of it being placed near a window has turned it from a dark wood to pretty much orange.

I'm thinking...of...maybe later this summer...painting it. Of course he completely does not know this yet, but I can still plan it all out.

I have a couple of bold textiles in our room (rug and quilt) so I would like to keep the armoire really simple and timeless. Right now I am thinking of painting it a creamy white and using black milk glass knobs (here) to tie in with the black in our silhouette gallery wall and to give it a more masculine feel.

Here are some inspiration pictures (of course I added in an aqua one since that is my fav color)...

And here is a (not so good) picture of the armoire, as is, from last fall...

What do you all think?

[Project Notebook] Americana

If, I had been more on top of things and not distracted by other projects I would have loved to have made something Americana.

But, it's only one day before the Fourth and I'm trying to fight off some sort of virus, so next year. Definitely, next year!

[Project Notebook] DIY Garden Gates

My husband doesn't know this yet, but we are going to build a garden gate this summer! I sort of hinted around at it once, but I completely do not think he took me seriously.

We have this old, ugly rotting fence separating our house from our neighbors and last year my husband started taking it down and I started getting quotes for a fence.  Totally did not happen since every quote was way out of our price range.

So, while I'm still figuring out what I want to do in terms of privacy on one side, I do know that a cute, rustic garden gate will go great with our cottagey yard.

These are my top picks, although realistically the one with the window would never work with two crazy boys...

I love the idea of using reclaimed materials for this project!

Any ideas, comments, suggestions?

Updating Furniture w/ Pottery Barn White

Hi everyone! I'm still continuing on my quest to make a good dent in my custom projects so that I can devote a good chunk of time to my kitchen next week. I cannot wait! My husband, probably like most, isn't super into decorating and all that, (he is always busy at work and has his own interests), so I actually had to tell him the other day that if he wants to see what is going to happen in our kitchen he had better read my blog post!

[Project Notebook] Kitchen Inspiration & Plans

I have been trying to get caught up on all of my custom furniture painting orders this week so that I can tackle a project that I have been itching to do for years now...paint my kitchen cabinets! I have spent so much time pouring over decorating magazines and pinning my favorite kitchens and I am so ready to get this thing going. And, I know there has been more than one [Project Notebook] posts devoted to this topic!

Like the rest of my house, I want it to be eclectic and collected, with a mix of modern country and vintage styles. And, we've been doing bits here and there...we added in the stainless island and reworked the light with a drum shade last year.  This year I painted the back splash with chalkboard paint and bought that country cupboard a couple of weeks ago.

Here is my plan...cannot wait!
