Stained Cedar Shingled Christmas Tree

This is a sponsored post.

Welcome friends!

I wanted to share a cozy little nook in our living room with you all today.

It's very simply dressed for the holidays in neutral colors and natural elements.

Our cedar planked tree takes center stage. While these reclaimed wood trees are popular in the blogging world, we tweaked ours a bit to make it more unique. I'm completely in love with it, by the way!

We started with 7, four foot long planks of cedar provided to us by CedarSafe. We reserved one and cut the remaining six in half. We then stacked them up and, using the reserved board as a guide, marked a line from the top center to the bottom corner, so that we had a triangle (tree) shape. Then, we cut each plank on the marked lines. Since we wanted to tone down the natural color of the cedar and give the project a more country and reclaimed feel, we stained each piece. I used a combo of glaze mixed with gray, turquoise and cream paint. (I love the clear glaze from General Finishes as you can customize with any color.)  We attached the boards with hot glue in an overlapping, shingled pattern. Then, we attached the reserved board to the back of the tree using brads. Optional: add a hook to the back to hang on the finished product on the wall.

Another thing we did was to decorate the tree with cedar balls. We stained them the same way as the tree and randomly attached them with hot glue. This is, by far my favorite part of the project.

I had an adorable furry helper during the photo shoot. He was just adamant that I position the twine a certain way!

This is like the most perfect place to sit down with a hot cup of tea and prep for Christmas.

You can see that I've started working on Christmas place setting ideas. These little trees I made are also using CedarSafe products and I will share lots more pictures and a full post with tutorial next week.
