Drop Cloth Wreath

A lot of the time when I make a wreath it takes me a long time.  Like sometimes so long that I lose interest and never finish.

A few months ago I made a really awesome books page wreath (I'll share soon; with Christmas posts taking precedence and other projects around the house in January it never made to the blog, but since it is now hung in our bedroom and I think we have a minor chair crisis all situated, be on the lookout!)  Anyway, the reason I mentioned that wreath was that the directions I found said that it would only take about an hour to complete.  I kid you not I spent at least 10 hours on it. Sigh.

I do love a good wreath though and really wanted one for this corner of our living room so I thought I would give it another shot. And I'm pleased to say that this drop cloth wreath was made in about half the time of the aforementioned book page wreath, which I thought was pretty reasonable. It's no hour, but whatever.

All I had to do was make a square template (about 3 inches) out of cardstock so I could cut the scrap drop cloth into uniformly sized shapes. I twisted each square into an ice cream cone shape and secured with hot glue. I folded the tip of the cone and secured with more glue to my wreath form (just a piece of cardboard that I traced two plates on and cut out.  To cover the edges, I just glued the tip of the cone to the back of the wreath.  One tip I have is to placed a dab of glue about 2/3rds of the way up the fabric cone and press it onto the cone next to it for support.

Just a simple and neutral corner.  The ironstone bowl and terracotta pot were previously on our coffee table filled with vintage ornaments.  We've had that lamp for probably close to 15 years, but I recently updated it with a new, fringe-free, non-Victorian looking shade and it made all the difference. And, I love the owls sitting on the shelf!

One final close up of the wreath. What do you think? I really like the fullness and the texture of it. The uses for drop cloths are pretty much endless.
