My Favorite Design Trends of 2014

I feel like the decorating stars have all aligned for me. Do you ever feel that way?  Finally, some things that I have loved for years and years are trending. And, for someone who sees themselves as mostly uncool...this is kind of a good thing.

I would not say that I am a huge trend follower, by nature. I just sort of like what I like. And, I suppose that some would find it a negative to see things that they love now popular everywhere and over saturated, but I'm going with it for a few reasons. One being that I feel flooded with inspiration from all the wonderful images that I find. And two, it's awesome to see things that I love accessible in stores and in price ranges that everyone can afford.

Design Trend: Agate

A perfect fit for me. It a little bit glamorous and glimmery, but pulls straight from nature. I love to bring in interesting accessories in fun colors into my home and this definitely fits the bill.

Design Trend: Vintage

If you know me, at all, then you know I love vintage and I always have. To see this huge burst in design to bring vintage pieces into the home and have them work perfectly with newer elements just warms my heart and makes me smile.

Design Trend: Animal Hide

I actually had a sheepskin rug growing up and it was always one of my favorite things. Hide rugs, furniture, pillows add such a wonderful element of warmth to a home and give it a perfect collected vibe.

Design Trend: Turquoise

My favorite colors are in the turquoise and aqua family. There is just something so soothing and pretty (without being overly feminine) about turquoise. I add little punches of it throughout my home.

Design Trend: Global Prints

This is definitely something I grew up with so it just sort of feels like a given when decorating a home. I love the history behind global elements and the extra layer they add to a room.

  3. I like that most of the things you mentioned were classic. So even when the tides of trendiness flow in another direction, those items will still look fresh.

  5. First, I love your blog.
I love your painted furniture and I love how you decorate your home.
OK, that being said, I would never leave this comment normally but since you asked....
I HATE animal hides.Truly. I don't care whether it's vintage or from an animal that died naturally and the hide was taken then.
It has to do with the fact that it's the skin of a dead animal. I just can't get my brain past it.
I remember reading somewhere that it's bad Feng Shui to even have cut flowers in the house because they are in the process of dying. Yeah, I know that sounds crazy but if THAT is indeed bad energy, I can only imagine the energy coming off of an animal hide.
Please don't take this as an attack on you or your tastes, It's just my opinion and it's the reason that when I see hides, I feel like it ruins the room for me. I don't even want to be in it. I just sends out bad vibes to me....and makes me feel unsettled and kinda sad.

But I do adore Turquoise and Vintage and I have a lot of both in my home.
