Updated Antique Work Table

Morning everyone! Today is my birthday. It always leaves me with mixed emotions. It's an odd mix of thankfulness and sadness. Completely weird, I know. And, yes. I was definitely that kid who hated having Happy Birthday sung to her at a party.

Anyway, I recently finished this antique work table and I am completely in love.

I love the classic black legs with the natural and super worn wood top.

Don't you just wonder what the history of this piece is? What it was used for? Where it has traveled? Please tell me I'm not alone because these are the things I think about!

Here is what the table looked like when I got it. Not necessarily bad, but I had a different vision for it.

I painted the legs black and left the finish solid; without distressing.

The top got carefully stripped of all its layers (and I'm talking like five different colors) to reveal the natural wood top. I then sealed the entire piece in poly.

I am seriously crushing on the whole antique with modern style right now. But, I could equally see it in a primitive or country home. So many possibilities!

  3. Happy Birthday! The only thing worse than having Happy Birthday sung at a party is having Happy Birthday sung in a restaurant...drop dead humiliating!
