Chippy, Country Desk

*I was compensated for this post with supplies, however all content, thoughts and opinions are my own.
Painting furniture has been a little bit sketchy around here lately. The hot, humid weather and rain seriously puts a damper on my work. And then I went to the beach. FYI, I will always choose the beach over furniture painting.

This past weekend however, the weather was beautiful and I had already had my fill of the beach, so I was able to get to work.

The first project I worked on was this gorgeous pine desk I recently picked up. I loved the lines of it...

While in fantastic condition it had a light stain and high gloss that completely dated the piece. And for the first time in probably like, forever, I have no before picture. I've been seriously preoccupied with something lately and completely forgot my usual routine of photographing and measuring every piece as it comes into Number Fifty-Three.

Have you noticed that I am on a Let's-use-as-many-colors-as-possible-on-a-single-piece-of-furniture-kick lately. Because I am. Such an easy way to add more interest to a piece.

I have to say, that unless I am doing a custom order where I am asked to use a really specific color I have almost exclusively been using General Finishes. I love the color options they have (OK, truth be told, I'm yearning for a true aqua from them), and the finish always comes out perfectly smooth.

For the desk I painted the drawers and trim in General Finishes Somerset Gold, a really pretty yellow. I heavily distressed it and then painted the top and base of the desk in GF's Linen. Again, distressing (albeit not as much as the yellow).

The hardware and chair were painted with a dark gray chalk paint.  I know I don't talk a lot about chalk paint on here. I think it is good for things, like the hardware, that would have an adhesion issue. But, I tend to shy away from it simply because I am not a fan of the thicker consistency.

The seat got reupholstered and I think it pairs wonderfully with the desk and adds a bit of a modern touch.

And, if you are local this lovely set is available and looking for a new home.
