Hey everyone! Today I'm sharing a project that I originally blogged about at Jennifer Rizzo Design Company.
I'm kind of in love with the whole popularity of tie dye in home décor. Additionally, my boys and I have been a bit obsessed with the artist Jackson Pollack for a few years now. I love both because they are just such free expressions of art and I wanted to incorporate this into our home in an unusual way.
This project is so quick, takes just a few supplies and makes a big impact. It's a perfect project to do with children of all ages, too.
You will need: Plain pillow cover (I used the Gurli Cover from IKEA), Liquid Rit Dye in various shades, spray bottle, cardboard and a pillow form).
I very simply cut a piece of cardboard to fit inside the pillow form to protect against bleed through.
I then mixed my dye in the spray bottle, one color at a time. I didn't really measure, but just added one part dye to approximately six parts of very hot water and shook well.
Do a few test sprays to get out any of the unmixed water and then you are ready to begin.
I sprayed both sides of the pillow with the dye, varying drips and blotchiness by how firmly I depressed the trigger.
Once I was satisfied with the first color I thoroughly cleaned the bottle and began the process again with my second color.
I let the entire pillow cover dry and then added in my pillow form.
I am loving the fun touch it adds to our living room!
