Number Fifty-Three: Repurposed Wine Crate Storage Ottoman

Lately, I've been craving brighter colors.

It's probably that I have completely hit my limit with snow and freezing weather and want to add in colors that remind me of spring to my home. Are you all there with me, too?

Last week, I made this storage ottoman using an old wine crate I had.

It's really pretty easy, adds in a punch of color and provides additional storage.

Here's what I used: wine crate, paint, stain or glaze and a rag or brush to apply it, wood or MDF cut to size, foam, batting and fabric, staple gun, screwdriver, two small hinges, four wood knobs (or alternately use casters), drill.

Start out by staining, painting or glazing your box and knobs. I used a combo of General Finishes Corinth Blue mixed with their clear glaze.

Next, I layered foam, batting and fabric and upholstered the MDF. This will become the cover.

I added the cover using the two small hinges.

Lastly, using a drill I added the knobs (an inexpensive alternative to feet, just to lift the box off the floor a bit). Casters are a good option for this, too, but I didn't want the industrial feel of them for this project.
