Entry Tour: Styling with Antique Books

If you recall there is no real separation between our entry and our living room. Kind of unusual for an older home, plus our neighbor's house was built by the same person at the same time and they do, in fact, have a separate, walled off entry space.

Painted Thrift Store Shelf & Mantel Display

Oh my gosh, this weekend went by fast! Can you all believe it's Monday already?

Saturday my Mom and I took the boys to Mystic, Connecticut, for the day and froze!  I wonder when exactly spring will arrive up here in the northeast?

On the way home I took some back roads and stumbled upon a seriously cute consignment store in Colchester. I could have spent forever in there, but for some reason, 9 and 11 years old boys don't want to go antiquing with there mother and grandmother, so there was some pretty substantial complaining going on. And this is despite the fact that my oldest got an owl for his collection and my youngest found a vintage Mickey Mouse bank for his room.

Antique Glass Front Cabinet

Hi everyone! Finally, we are having some beautiful weather here in the northeast. We plan on taking a nice long walk with the boys this afternoon. Can't wait.

A couple of weeks ago I purchased this gorgeous glass front cabinet from my favorite local store (The Trading Post for my Western MA friends). I had been looking for something like this forever to replace the black dresser we previously had here. Antonio snatched that piece up for his bedroom makeover leaving us with an awkward empty space in the corner of our living room.

This cabinet could not be more perfect; look how it fits just right underneath the black shelf.

Displaying Collections {Guest Home Tour}

I love the start of a brand new week, especially when I feel like we got things accomplished the week before.  One thing I've been wanting to do for a while was to photograph some more of my Mom's house to share with you all.  I had previously posted about her fall décor here and got such a fantastic response (which she was thrilled about) that I just had to show you more.

There is totally no question, whatsoever, where I get my love of decorating and collecting from. Wait to you see the awesome collections she has!

My Mom's style does differ from mine (although we trade items frequently and incorporate them quite easily into our respective homes).

Enjoy!

I think that my Mom has a pretty amazing collection of Yellowware and Watt bowls, don't you?  The bowls, which were collected from estate and tag sales and consignment shops, are all neatly lined up for display in her pantry.

DIY Coffee Table Terrarium

With the cold, cloudy, snowy days we have here in New England in the winter I wanted to add something with life and greenery into my living room.

I (very easily and inexpensively) put together this terrarium for my coffee table.

Carving out a Library

We don't have one of those long, narrow traditional type of hallways.  Ours is shaped more like a square, located at the top of our stairs on the second floor of our home.

It's almost like a little room; having more than ample space for furniture and accessories.

Dramatic Dining Room Hutch Transformation

I've been working on my dining room for a couple of months now and I'm finally seeing it all come together.  My plans for the room changed from my original thoughts that I wrote about here, but I am so in love with the space and all the elements that have been included.

One reason that things didn't go as planned was because we couldn't sell our large hutch.  We called every consignment store, estate buyer and listed it on craigslist, but there was just no interest.

My husband originally wanted to use just the bottom piece in the room and store the large upper portion in the garage.

I lived with it like this for awhile, but the scale of the furniture was all wrong in the room and it killed me to have the top of the hutch rotting away in our old garage.  Eventually, I convinced my husband to let me paint the piece and remove the doors for open shelving and I am so happy he agreed because this is what I came up with.
