Gold Dipped Wooden Planter & Dresser Styling

You know when you're watching home buying shows on TV and the agent tells the client that you can make cosmetic changes, but the one thing you can't change is the location? Yeah. I sort of feel that way about thrift store shopping. But, instead of a bad location (like a house) something at the thrift store might be total trash or completely unusable. (Tell me I'm not the only one who wonders how some of that stuff has even made it onto the shelves). Other items might just need that easy cosmetic change.

I wanted to show you all, first hand, what I meant so I gave myself a meager budget and headed to the thrift store last week. I wanted something nontraditional that I could use as a planter on my dresser.

I left with this. If you are still addicted to the flowers and powder blues of the 1980s this is not the blog for you. But, I will tell you this, you know it's bad when even the thrift store merchandise gets marked down 50%. That is how this wooden box came home with me for just $1.06 (tax included).

Supplies:  Thrift store wooden box, sanding block, paint (white and gold), painters tape, finishing wax, lint free cloth, plant of your choice.

Simply give the box a light sanding and clean thoroughly. Then, paint the entire outside of the box white. When completely covered and dry, tape off a line all the way around the box and paint the lower portion gold. Finish with a coat of wax and a light buffing with the cloth and add your plant.

Simple and inexpensive. My favorite type of project!
