Bedroom Sneak Peak & Sure Fit Slipcover

Morning friends!

You all know that I am all about decorating on a budget. I truly feel that you can achieve the look that you want without spending a fortune.

I also love decorating with neutrals. Having a neutral palette in my home means that I can arrange and rearrange all that I want because everything flows so well together.

My goal for 2014 has been to share (and thus work on/complete) areas in my home that desperately need it.

One of those rooms is the master bedroom (and I still have so much to do), but here is a little corner I thought I would share. The colors in our bedroom are gray, white, cream and black. The only other color is the blue writing on the pillow case and previously, this wing chair. Lately, though, the blue of that chair had become glaring to me. I love the chair, especially because it is a family piece, but it just wasn't working in the room anymore.

(Here's a before. The color just is not working.)

Because I wanted a fast (and cost effective) change I immediately thought to slipcover. I had previously used a white twill slipcover to extend the life of our old couch with great results so I knew it would be perfect here, too. A huge thank you to Sure Fit for helping me out with this project!

One thing that I absolutely love about their twill slip covers is that you cannot see through them. At all. There is no trace, whatsoever, of the blue velvet fabric underneath!

This chair didn't quite fill out the slipcover as well as my large 1990s couch did, but it is amazing how well I got it to fit with some tucking and adjusting. Here's a little tip for you...I use a wooded kitchen spatula to really tuck all the extra fabric in. It totally works!

One last thing, did you notice the tray holding my magazines?  I lined it with left over fabric, but it is actually the genius idea of Jenna from Rain on a Tin Roof. (Go on over to her blog to read about her Lucite Trays.)

  5. I love how your chair looks with the slip cover. Bethany from Dwellings by Devore did a tray like that last year and I had a version of it too last October. Those frames are awesome.
