Mixing Antique with Modern in Home Decorating

I always feel a constant pull between a couple of different styles when I decorate my home.

I love the clean lines, graphic prints and metals that are associated with modern design. (CB2 and West Elm are a couple of my favorite, reasonably priced, places to shop.)

However, I am constantly drawn to older items and antiques. I just love the history associated with them. Over the last couple of months we have added some really special pieces to our home and I can't wait to share them with you all soon!

I feel like the key in successfully marrying these two styles is to create a balance between them. Too much of one will completely throw off the look of the space. Also, use of color and quirky elements (like a fun accessory) keeps the space from being too stuffy, which can sometimes happen when you incorporate antiques.

What so you all think? Do you have more than one style that you love and, if so, how do incorporate them into your home?

  6. I'm right there with you! I think antique/ older vintage stuff will always be my first love, but I'm pretty into the lines on mid century stuff these days, too. But I like a bit of that sprinkled here and there....I like the look of a room totally done that way, but it doesn't feel like me.

  7. I hear you on this one! I love the old pieces from my grandma but like modern as well! I feel I will forever be working on this marriage of styles as it is taking me time to find just the right pieces or make just the right art! Like you I could never lose the antiques to pure modern...a room with an old vibe is one that will always pull me in! Awesome post friend! Nicole xoxo
