[Project Notebook] Plants & Interesting Containers

I always get a teensy bit excited when it's time to head to the garden store to buy plants and flowers for our yard.

We just made it there earlier this week and I  picked a pretty good assortment of herbs, perennials and annuals to dress up our space. Hopefully, this weekend I will get everything sorted, planted and displayed.

I'm trying to go for a really cottage look this year and to me that means lots of chippy and interesting containers.  Here are some that I find really inspiring...

[Project Notebook] Inspired Furniture

I just love painted furniture (obviously)! The possibilities are truly endless when you are reinventing an old piece. One of my favorite things is to do is to add a bit of a bold or unexpected touch to vintage furniture.

Here are some pieces that I find particularly inspiring (and that I would like to try)!

[Project Notebook] Color Trend: Marigold Yellow

I'm no stranger to decorating with bold marigold (as I've recently seen it described) or mustard seed yellow.

Remember my gossip bench from last year? You can check it out in my fall entryway here. That was actually my most popular post ever!  And my $24.99 gold thrift store chair has been a comfy staple in my living room since I brought it home close to a year ago.

[Project Notebook] Gallery Walls

Being both a collector and someone who despises clutter I love gallery walls. It's like the best of both worlds. I get to display collections, while at the same time keeping things neat, orderly and organized.  I already have a couple in my home. You can see my huge family picture gallery wall in this post and my bedroom silhouette wall here.

I'm slowly starting to gather items for a gallery wall in my living room. (We are planning some updates in there this year.) And when I revamp the television area I would like to incorporate a small gallery. However, unlike the other two that I previously shared, that are based more on a cohesive theme, I would like this one to be more collected/eclectic.

Here is where I am inspiration wise so far:

[Project Notebook] Home Office

I've mentioned on Facebook, more times than I can count, how much I truly cannot stand our office/classroom. It is a total disaster and collection of everything that doesn't work elsewhere in out home. And this is pretty much where we spend all our time, people! It needs to stop.  Since I buy mostly thrift, it will take me time to find all the right pieces, but that's to be expected. I'm reusing lots of what we already have and moving furniture from room to room (my oldest took most of the current storage up to his room for his makeover, so this is giving me a bit of a fresh start).  Oh, and since this is a tight space with lots of stuff (remember that this is both our office and homeschool classroom) I am picturing light and bright with lots of open storage.  Here's my inspiration:

1 Bliss  2 décor pad  3 unknown  4 Thistlewood Farm

Now, I'm off to continue painting shelves (bright white, of course) for said office makeover.

Have a great day!

[Project Notebook] Furniture

I am always on the hunt for new vintage pieces of furniture.  First of all, I just love the quality and uniqueness of an older piece of furniture. Secondly, the cost is typically more reasonable than new (plus you know I love a good project).  I've collected some of my favorite inspiration pieces to share with you all today. Note that not all are vintage, but I love the look, nonetheless.

[Project Notebook] Master Bedrooms

I shared some tweaking I had made to our master bedroom earlier this week. (You can see the full post here.) But, before I began those changes I searched for inspiration to guide me and inspire me.  These were the top 5 favorite bedrooms that I found.

[Project Notebook] Planked Walls

I seriously love the look of an accent wall and, as our style and pieces in our home have evolved, I'm itching to add something different to our dining room.

If you haven't already heard, we've (O.K. really just me, but my husband picked out the color) have been repainting most of our house in a lighter and brighter color.) We went with Benjamin Moore's Cloud Cover and love it.

So, even though I just recently painted our dining room, in the coming weeks months it will be painted again. Of course that will cause a problem because I can't exactly paint with the book page accent wall still up. I totally saw this coming, so that is why I simply hung up the pages with double stick tape. Easy on. Easy off.

My dream would be to replace the book pages with some sort of planking.  Aren't the examples below gorgeous! And guess what...the second photo is just a painting technique. Genius!

[Project Notebook] Boys Bedroom Plans

I've mentioned that both of my boys wanted their rooms updated in the new year and they both had very specific requests.

Gennaro, (just turned nine), wanted better lighting (specifically, a lamp like the one in the Pixar logo), a rug, new curtains and better display storage for his figurines.

[Project Notebook]

Even though it is more than a month away, I have been busily pinning Valentine craft ideas here.  Below are some of my faves that I want to try this year.

[Project Notebook]

(I always have a ton of decorating and DIY ideas floating around in my head. Many of them end up in my project notebook that I keep in my nightstand. I thought it would be fun if I shared some of my ideas with you all each week.)

I've been slowly painting my bedroom. Seriously, what typically would take me a day I have been working on for two months. Anyway, with the painting now complete I have been adding in little touches to make the space more personal, but I am really struggling with styling my dresser.  Here are some possibilities...

This week I'm thinking about cute, comfy, winter fashion. It's freezing here today and I'm always on the lookout for wearable outfits.  I typically stick with jeans, tanks, sweaters and flats (boots when it gets really chilly!):

[Project Notebook] and a Winner!

(I always have a ton of decorating and DIY ideas floating around in my head. Many of them end up in my project notebook that I keep in my nightstand. I thought it would be fun if I shared some of my ideas with you all each week.)

This week I'm thinking about simple Thanksgiving decor. I don't want to rush this season one bit. I love this time of year, even more so than Christmas. I plan to incorporate some of the following into our home:

1.  A thankful tree--I love the idea of this!

[Project Notebook] & A Giveaway!

(I always have a ton of decorating and DIY ideas floating around in my head. Many of them end up in my project notebook that I keep in my nightstand. I thought it would be fun if I shared some of my ideas with you all each week.)

I'm not sure if I ever mentioned this, but I'm not a huge fan of red. That said, the previous owners of our house must have loved it.  I mean they did leave us with a red front door, red foundation, red walkway, red detached garage, red concrete bench in the garden and a painted red fence surrounding our property. So, if I had the motivation of rid our property of all the excessive red, this is what I would do.

1. Black Door

So, if you saw my post about adding in my new settee, than you know that I've had entryway design on my mind lately.  Here are some ideas I kept in mind when updating my own area.

1.  A comfy place to sit.

I sort of have this little obsession with furniture.  Luckily, I only shop thrift and tag sales so the expense is kept relatively minimum.  Here are some of my dream pieces of furniture that I have pinned on my Pinterest boards.

1. Vintage Brass Chest

I'm planning a sort of mini master bedroom makeover.  There are some key pieces that I want (like an antique mantel and a second quilt for my bed) that I know will take time to find in my price range, so the entire process will, most likely, be done in stages.

1. Old layered mirrors--I can definitely achieve this with thrift store finds.

This week, as I have been decorating my house for fall, I keep thinking of new ways to add in bits of nature.  Even though I'm not really an outdoorsy person I love adding natural elements to my decor.  It's free, gives loads of texture to a display and provides beautiful color.  Here are some options I'm considering:

1. A wreath made out of leaves.
